After a thorough renovation, the main part of St. John's Church is reopened with a festival service. Not only has the damage of half a century been removed, but old structures of the pre-war church have also been laid out again. The large galleries have been moved back to their original line and equipped with steeper rows of seats and glass balustrades in order to give better views of the church service to a larger number of people, in accordance with the concept of the city church. The church is now lighter inside and, as a central Protestant city church, can be used in many ways.

 Wenn Sie vom Eingang der Kirche in Richtung Apsis schauen, schraubt sich zur Linken eine Treppe zur Hochkanzel hinauf. In der ursprünglichen Kirche von 1881 stand hier eine bunt verzierte Kanzel auf einer steinernen Säule, von einem Zaun umgeben. Die Nachkriegs-Kirchengestaltung hob die Predigtkanzel in eine Schwindel erregende Höhe von fünf Metern, setzte sie auf eine ins Kirchenschiff vorspringende Mauer und umkleidete die Predigenden mit einer wuchtigen hölzernen Kassettenbrüstung. Die neue Kanzel ist dagegen ganz zurück genommen. Der gedrehte Aufgang gibt den Blick in die Kirche frei, die Glasverkleidung wirkt transparent. Nicht das Möbelstück, das dort gesprochene Wort ist es, was alle Aufmerksamkeit haben soll. Wenn Sie näher herantreten, werden Sie in den Glasscheiben des Treppengeländers und der Kanzel so etwas wie Schriftzüge entdecken, manche lesbar, andere in seltsamen fremden Buchstaben. Treten Sie näher und probieren Sie einmal zu entziffern.
