Zoran Marković, Kontrabass

zoran_markovicAfter graduating from The Academy of Music in Podgorica and taking his M.A. at The Faculty for Musical Art in Belgrade, the double-bass player Zoran Marković continued his studies with renowned pedagogues in Venice (Franco Marzorati), Cremona (Franco Petrachi), Munich (Gerg Hörtnagel), Salzburg (Klaus Stoll).

During his study, he was awarded numerous prizes at competitions at home and abroad. As a member of the Slovene Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra he was awarded the Prešeren Fund prize (the prestigious Slovene prize) in 1999, the Oton Župančič prize in 2004, and the Julij Betetto prize in 2006.

Zoran Marković performs in Slovenia and abroad as a soloist, with renowned orchestras and chamber musicians. His cooperation includes orchestras like l'Octuor à Vent Paris Bastille, Slowind, Ţrio Empiem, Euro Octet, Slavko Osterc ensemble, Wanderer Ensemble, Vienna – Ljubljana Ensemble, Vienna Clarinet Connection, Ariart, and others. He performed at the Radenci Festival of contemporary music, Musica Danubiana, Aspecte Salzburg, Neuebühne Villach, Slovenian music days, Serenate nel Chiostro, Trieste Prima, Sotto le stelle di Villa Panza, I suoni delle Dolomiti, Akzente-Neue Music in Klagenfurt, Ljubljana Summer Festival, “Hitove muze” at the Dobrovo manor, Grad teatar Budva, PAC Murska Sobota, A Tempo Podgorica and many others.

He has been successfully performing as a soloist with the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, the Slovenicum ensemble, the Strings Chamber Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra, St. George's Strings, the Celje Chamber Orchestra, the Amadeus Chamber String Orchestra, Junge Kärntner Bläserphilcharmonie, the Niš Symphonic Orchestra, under the baton of Laszlo Marosi, Yuri Simonov, Uroš Lajovic, Marko Letonja, Petar Ivanović, Nenad Firšt, Paul Meyer, Miodrag Janoski, J. Freeman.

With the pianist Aleksandar Serdar, Zoran Marković recorded a CD of sonatas by L. van Beethoven and C. Franck as well as a piece for double bass solo by the composer Nenad Firšt. He personally adapted the two sonatas for performing on the double bass. Zoran Marković participated in recording of several others CDs of chamber music.

From 1990 to 2004 he was the head of double basses of the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra. From January 2004, he is employed as a senior lecturer ad the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. He is also is a teacher of double bass at the Secondary School for Music in Ljubljana and a lecturer at the International Summer Music Academy Feldkirchen in Austria, and at the Montenegro-Music Festival in Montenegro.

He plays a 17th century Italian instrument.
